Ready to share the comfort of your dog with people in need as a volunteer therapy dog team? These teams are trained to be in the community. They help spread joy and bring comfort to people in care homes, prevention clinics, and community events.
Requirements for Handlers
Read your dog’s body language, recognizing approaching and avoidant behaviors.
Cue or redirect your dog gently and effectively, without force, or coercion.
Interact with your dog positively, supporting them as needed.
Interact with those you visit, while simultaneously tending to your dog.
Anticipate your dog’s response in different situations and set them up for success at all times.
Guide interactions during each visit in a patient, polite, and professional manner.
